I often speak about leveraged business models, as that happens to be one of my obsessions. However, there are other ways to implement leverage in your business other than the business models you choose.
Leverage the mind, expertise and experience of your mentors, coaches, teachers and colleagues around you through mastering the “Art of Asking Questions”. Mastering the “Art of Asking Questions” to best serve your growth as a solopreneur starts with perfecting these 3 strategies:
1. Be prepared – The Boy Scout motto of “always be prepared” is not just for kids. It goes for solopreneurs too. When you have a chance to have one on one time with your coach or business mentor, always make sure you have a list of questions ahead of time. Not being prepared wastes your time and money (and theirs too). There are always areas in your business that you can problem solve, brainstorm and grow in… so never show up to a meeting or session without GOOD questions to ask and to get answered.
2. Check Mate – The game of chess is not just a game to pass time. It is an amazing game to start even at a young age because it trains the brain to think a minimum of 2 steps ahead (that is, if you are a good player).
You need to do that in your business as well. Thinking where you want to go next, and then picking the brain of your mentors and coaches about how to get there, what to expect, what worked or didn’t work, lessons they have learned in the process. Putting your chess-game thinking cap on allows you to move ahead in an expedited way.
3. Be the Thought Leader – If you have ever been in a room or class with me, you know that I like to ask questions. However, asking questions and following the answers are actually 2 different paths.
You need to still be a thought leader when it comes to what you are going to do in your business. Leveraging the minds of mentors and coaches is key for figuring out what has worked for them and what hasn’t, but at the end of the day, you still need to take action in a way that is authentic to whom you are.
Asking questions is not about just following the teacher, but about being informed about the possibilities and then carving the path that you want to take to best change the world with your special gifts and talents.
As a solopreneur that is going to change the world, there are many paths to your hearts desires, using the art of asking questions to discover the right path for you is an essential skill to master.
